Calcitriol is a metobolite of Vitamin D. It is used in the management of hypocalcemia (low blood calcium levels). Calcitriol is necessary for the absorption of dietary calcium from the intestines.
Adequate dietary and/or supplemental calcium is necessary in order to see results from calcitriol therapy. Your pet may have to take a calcium supplement or a change in diet. It is possible to then get hypercalcemia (high calcium levels) from calcitriol
Hypercalcemia (see symptoms above) Contact vet if there are any adverse effects or unusual behavior.
