Acetylcysteine is used an an antidote to some poisonings. It is important that the medication be given as soon as possible after exposure to the poison
Solution can be provided in various concentrations, and a typical dose is 3mg/kg to 10mg/kg orally 5 times daily for 10 days.
When used IV it can cause acute renal insufficiency. This can be prevented by slow IV administration.
