Diphenhydramine is primarily used to treat allergic reactions to drugs or to environmental allergens. It may also be used for motion sickness. It may be used as an injection prior to chemotherapy to prevent vomiting or allergic reactions from chemotherapy
Diphenhydramine should be used with caution in patients with glaucoma, urinating problems, prostate enlargement, or thyroid problems. Working dogs may become overly sedated and unable to perform their duties while on this medication. If a dose is missed,
Sleepiness and sedation, may lessen with time. Dry mouth, Inability to urinate, Cats may become unusually excited, omiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea. Diphenhydramine should be discontinued at least 4 days before allergy tests are started.
