FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How is compounded medication different from generic medication?
Generic medications are mass-produced and commercially available on the market for purchase at chain pharmacies. Compounded medications are made-to-order based on clients’ individual demands. At The Pet Apothecary, all of our medications are compounded so that each is unique and custom-made to meet your animal’s specific needs.
What do I do if my pet refuses medication?
We know it can be difficult to convince your pets to take medication, even when they really need it. The Pet Apothecary specializes in creating custom formulations that make it easy, and even enjoyable, for pet owners to administer medication and for pets to take medication. We can package medications into delicious “chewables”, liquids, and other dosage forms based on your pet’s individual tastes and preferences. Please see our Dosage Forms page for more information, including a current list of our available flavors.
What species of animals can The Pet Apothecary serve?
Our pharmacists and technicians are comfortable with working with animals of all shapes and sizes, ranging from everyday house pets to exotic animals, including pythons, opossums, grizzly bears, giraffes, gorillas, horses, meerkats, owls, hippos, and more. Our zoological specialty team consults with your veterinarians, caretakers, or species specialists to determine the most appropriate treatment for your animal.
